ImageFIRST Fort Myers doesn’t just deliver scrub uniforms in Fort Myers, FL, and its surrounding areas; we take part in a number of community giving activities throughout the year. Both ImageFIRST Fort Myers and our fellow associates at locations across the United States make routine efforts to give back to our communities and get involved in local causes. Recently, our fellow ImageFIRST NY-NJ team of associates attended the Autism Speaks Walk in northern New Jersey to spread awareness and raise funds for research on the disorder.
What is Autism?
Autism is the abbreviated term for autism spectrum disorder (or ASD), which refers to a range of conditions marked by an individual's challenges with social skills, communication (both verbal and nonverbal) and repetitive behaviors. Autism is categorized according to spectrums because there are, in fact, many kinds of autism; all of which are caused by differing combinations of environmental and genetic influences.
How Many People Are Affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism spectrum disorder is estimated by the CDC to affect one in every sixty-eight children in the US. Typically, autism is more common in boys: One in every forty-two boys has some form of autism spectrum disorder, while only one in every 189 girls are reported to have the disorder.
What is the Autism Speaks Walk?
The Autism Speaks Walk is the world’s largest fundraising event for ASD dedicated to improving the lives of those with autism and their families. ImageFIRST employees and other walkers joined as advocates to take action for the diverse needs of the ASD community. The efforts of volunteers continue to enable the completion of critical research which helps to ensure that those of every ability level have access to the education and tools needed to live their best lives.
The ImageFIRST Experience
As with all quarterly ImageFIRST community giving events, the Autism Speaks Walk presented the opportunity for ImageFIRST associates to both volunteer their time to a good cause, and spend time with other ImageFIRST associates and their families. The office showed additional support with a donation of $1,050 to the Autism Speaks Walk fundraiser.
ImageFIRST Fort Myers is a proud supporter of both our fellow ImageFIRST NY-NJ team and the Autism Speaks Walk cause. Embodying our company’s Purpose, we choose to seek out opportunities to positively impact our associates and the community.
